Getting my hands dirty
Observing 5 different mechanics perform an inspection with the existing application showed some glaring issues.
- Each mechanic approached the inspection differently, but there was a rationale behind each method.
- Moving from inside and outside the car presented some contrast and viewing issues.
- Most of these guys were once mechanics with somewhat not delicate mechanical hands.
Actionable insights
Allowing mechanics to freely inspect a car in their own particular way was the insight that drove the design. Testing early and often with 3 concepts was key to finding the best solution.
Light, shade, speed and quality
Success would be measured by speed and quality. The new experience had to be quicker to complete an inspection and the quality of the report comments had to maintain. Inspections were not only quicker but the report comments were plentiful and more detailed
